The Community Leisure Association of Whitworth, ‘CLAW’, is a registered, limited company, with charity status. It was founded in Oct 2002 by a group of volunteers who were interested in revitalising Whitworth Swimming Pool, following its threatened closure by Rossendale Borough Council.

1.1 Company Structure

As of Feb 2008 the board of the company is made up of the following directors:

Neil Ashcroft
Christine Ashcroft
Chris Rowan
Peter Barnes
Ken Makin
Other members are welcome to join and will be co-opted onto the board as and when necessary

There are also two members of RBC, who are not directors, but attend the monthly CLAW meetings in an advisory non-voting capacity

Objectives

To provide a professional and effective management of the facilities at the Whitworth Leisure Centre and The Riverside that will secure the confidence of users, investors and the Local Authority.

The success of the Association is dependent on our ability to:

Develop a working relationship with Rossendale Borough Council as a representative body of the community of Whitworth.

Give confidence to the local community that the Association has the ability to secure the future and develop the Leisure Centre and The Riverside.

Ensure that we have the energy, enthusiasm and willingness as a team, to carry out our objectives.

Ensure that the Association provides effective communication with the local public, to ensure they have full awareness of our actions and their consequences.
