Welcome To Comics Literacy Awareness



claw3 (1) Comics Literacy Awareness (CLAw) is an exciting new literacy charity formed by a group of passionate and highly experienced trustees from the fields of education and comics.
The mission of CLAw is to dramatically improve the literacy levels of UK children through the medium of comics and graphic novels. CLAw will also aim to raise the profile, image and respectability of comics and graphic novels as both a valid art form and as works of literature. 


Stan Lee Excelsior Award

The 2015 shortlists for the Stan Lee Excelsior Award and the Stan Lee Excelsior Award Junior have just been announced, featuring a variety of books from publishers such as Marvel, DC, Dark Horse, Image, Cinebook, David Fickling, Yen Press and Nobrow. Drawn from the fields of comics, education and publishing, CLAw's team of trustees are all highly experienced, passionate about the potential of comics to improve literacy levels and have been working hard for over 18 months to get CLAw to where it is today. Dave Gibbons announced as our first Comics Laureate

On October 17th we revealed Dave Gibbons as our first ever Comics Laureate (as well as officially launching the charity). This took place at the Lakes International Comic Art Festival in Kendal and was announced by world famous comics theorist Scott McCloud, author of Understanding Comics!
